NY WATERWAY ADDS PAULUS HOOK STOP TO BELFORD SERVICE, MAKING COMMUTING EVEN EASIER
---
First Jersey to Jersey Service in Ferry Company’s 23-Year History
BELFORD, NJ, February 19, 2010 – NY Waterway is beginning commuter ferry service between Belford in Monmouth County and Jersey City’s Paulus Hook, starting March 1, Founder & CEO Arthur E. Imperatore announced today.
This is the first route in NY Waterway’s 23-year history which takes commuters from a New Jersey point of origin to a New Jersey destination.
Several runs on the ferry service between Belford and East River Pier 11 at the foot of Wall Street and the World Financial Center Terminal on the Hudson River now will include a Paulus Hook stop to serve commuters who must travel between Monmouth County and Jersey City.
Newly installed flat screen TV sets and wireless internet service on commuter ferries operating between Belford and Manhattan, coupled with on-board snack and beverage service and departures every 20-30 minutes during the morning and evening rush hours, make this the most luxurious commuter service in the Metropolitan Area.
“NY Waterway has a strong tradition of meeting the changing needs of our customers,” said Mr. Imperatore. “Our Monmouth County customers expressed the need to have service to Jersey City, and we were happy to accommodate them.”
"Based on the success of other routes in our 23-year history, we would expect this Belford-Paulus Hook service to support Jersey City’s efforts to increase employment opportunities and to add to the attraction of the Monmouth County Bayshore as a desirable place to live, with minimal increase in auto traffic,” Mr. Imperatore added.
High-speed 350 passenger catamarans make the trip between Belford and Paulus Hook in about one hour, saving commuters almost one hour in travel time each way. There are six departures from Belford to Paulus Hook between 5:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. each weekday and eight departures from Paulus Hook between 2:40 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. each weekday afternoon/evening.
Comparable auto, bus or train travel takes almost two hours – without the bar and other amenities.
The largest privately operated commuter ferry system in the U.S., NY Waterway/Billybey Ferry Co. carry 30,000 passengers per day on 20 routes between New York and New Jersey and between Newburgh and Beacon and between Ossining and Haverstraw.
