Customer Spotlight

Hello fellow commuters! My name is Tony Carrini and this is my second time featured in NY Waterway’s Customer Spotlight. As with Justin Timberlake, Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks and Steve Martin joining the five timer’s club on SNL, I’m on my way to NY Waterway’s version and I am honored.

In my first Spotlight (which you can read here: http://www.bit.ly/Lt1xWE) I wrote about my family, my childhood and how I wound up taking the ferry to my office in Battery Park. In this edition, with the warm weather finally here, I want to write about what it means to be in the open air and the scenery that surrounds you when you take the ferry in and out of Manhattan.

It’s 7:55am and my train has just arrived at the Hoboken Terminal. I walk off the train and head towards the 8am ferry that will take me to Pier 11. While I’m walking, I load up my ferry ticket on the NY Waterway app, plug in my headphones and select a song. As it’s the morning, most of us simply have our heads down as we prepare for the workday ahead.

After selecting a seat on the second level where I am certain to feel the sun, the ferry begins to move. I put the phone down and take in the view. It’s something many of us take for granted as the tasks of the day creep their way into our thoughts. However, I find that if I just pick my head up, I get lost in the New York City skyline and the stress of the upcoming day disappears as I journey toward the City. A view that millions travel to see each year, we get to enjoy each day. There’s the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, other ferries, the occasional cruise ship and One World Trade Center. The World Trade Center is something I look forward to each time. Seeing it rise while riding the ferry every day is something I’ll always remember.

The ferry makes its way around the tip of Manhattan to Pier 11, I disembark and begin my walk to the office. As I do, I prepare for the day knowing that I’ll be able to take the same scenic journey home across the Hudson River at the end of the work day.

I’m so enamored by the views that I like to share them often with my family, friends and followers on Twitter, Instagram and Vine (some samples are below). Hope some of you will find me there under @TonyCarrini.

I hope you enjoyed taking my journey with me and I look forward to hearing from you and how you experience the ride each day!
